Black is black, some would say, but the way in which black is set up can affect the look of your final printed document.
Spot Black
If your document is to be printed using spot colours, black text or objects should be set up as black only.
Process Strong Black
If your document is to be printed in 4 colour process, to enhance areas of solid black or large headline text, it is often advisable to place a 40% cyan screen under the 100% solid black areas.
This will give the black areas a deeper strength of colour and make other objects containing black screens within the document easier to produce, with the correct colour balance.
